WHAT'S ON MY FACE #8

Thursday, 31 January 2013

This WOMF is pretty much a collection of some of my favourite products that I'm using at the moment.

I started by priming my skin with the Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch (why do Clarins have to have such long product names!) which is a new product for me. The texture is very similar to Benefit's POREfessional which you know I'm not a fan of, but it's also quite different. Although it feels very siliconey and a little greasy, once it's rubbed in it does create a nice, smooth base.

I then used my new favourite base, a mix of Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector and Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, which I spoke about here. I bronzed up my face with the last tiny bit of my NARS Laguna and added a little glow with MAC Stereo Rose, which I'm now really happy I bought.

For the eyes I used a bit of Stila 'Kitten', MAC's Petina on the outer corners, with a bit of Charcoal Brown in the crease and under the eye. I love my new duo MAC palette, it's firmly tucked away in my Thailand makeup bag! To finish the eyes, a swish of my new favourite mascara (check yesterday's post for a ridiculous raving review).

On my lips I'm wearing MAC Craving which is a new shade I picked up after all your recommendations on my MAC lipstick video

What do you think of this WOMF?

INSIDE MY TRAVEL MAKEUP BAG

Wednesday, 30 January 2013

I know you all like to have a nosey, I do too, so here's a peak into my travel makeup bag, my in-flight beauty bag and another little secret bag. I know it's a bit OTT, but a beauty junkie can't travel light!

Enjoy!

THE BEST MASCARA EVER

Yep, you read correctly, I am actually claiming this to be the best mascara I have ever tried... what a statement hey! I love my Origins mascara, I love my Make Up For Ever mascara, I even quite like the Soap & Glory mascara, but oh-my-god... this one is incredible.

I really had no expectations or high hopes when I was about to try the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume mascara 'meh, just another mascara'. But after just one swipe on my lashes I was blown away. The brush is one of those plastic ones with little bristles, that I normally don't like at all. I tried the L'Oreal Telescopic and wasn't a fan as the wand didn't grip to my lashes and just did nothing. There's something about the Clinique brush that makes it apply the perfect amount of product and it clings to the lashes so well that you can practically stroke your lashes with the wand. Application is so precise and after just one coat my lashes were long and thick.

Now I have (thankfully) quite long and thick lashes anyway, so I made sure to test this on my mum too. She has (sorry mum) tiny little straight lashes and when she used this she also said 'WOW'... and it's pretty hard to impress my mum!

The best thing about Clinique mascaras is that you can try them on at the counters because they have tester wands that are actually the same as the wand in the mascara you want to try. So I'd recommend trying this yourself, but I'm pretty sure most of you will love it. I certainly do!

Ahh... I love a good product rave.

Have you tried this mascara yet?

I'm off to Thailand today, but there will still be posts daily on here and videos going up on my YouTube channel. See you in two weeks (hopefully a little bronzed up!)

CLARINS INSTANT LIGHT NATURAL LIP PERFECTOR

Tuesday, 29 January 2013

I've spoken about this lip product briefly before here, but I thought it was aout time for a revisited blog post. The ILNLP (can I call it that for short?!) is the perfect lipgloss for lipgloss haters.

The applicator is a a soft sponge that the gel-like product squeezes out of and it makes it easy to apply to your lips. It feels like a lip balm, but looks like a lip gloss and there is NO sign of any stickyness.  I have two colours, 01 and 02. My favourite is 02 which is a peachy nude that pretty much matches my lip colour. 01 is more of a pinky tone, which I also really like and it's an easy way for me to where pinky shades that I normally can't wear.

I absolutely love these and although they are quite pricey, they can be worn on their own or with a lipstick so they're pretty useful things to have in your collection. I'm a fan.

Have you tried the Clarins ILNLP before? (Is the nickname catching yet??)

MAC STEREO ROSE

Monday, 28 January 2013

MAC Stereo Rose is probably one of MAC's most coveted products. It's been out in a previous collection but sold out very quickly and then was re-released in MAC's recent collection Après Chic. Now, I'm not one to visit every MAC store searching for a sold out item, in fact I was pretty much 99% sure I wasn't going to buy this. Yes it had a massive hype around it, but when I tried it on the first time it just seemed like a decent blusher and well, I have too many blushers as it is.

I'd set my mind on buying MAC's Soft & Gentle which is also a MSF but it's a champagne colour so would be used as a highlighter rather than a blush. Unfortunately Westfield didn't have any Soft & Gentle... and well, I'd already prepared myself to buy something in MAC. The lady convinced me to try Stereo Rose again (they actually had a few left in stock even though everywhere else had sold out) and she applied it to the tops of my cheekbones as a highlight/blush hybrid and well, I really liked it. Damn!

So I fell for the hype/sold out story and bought Stereo Rose. It's a huge product, which is what kind of what put me off in the first place. For a product which is pretty much a blusher, it's huge and very expensive. But what attracts me to it is it's ability to highlight whilst adding colour to the cheeks. It's a coral colour with gold and bronze running through it, although if I apply too much it can look quite orangey/red on me.

The formula is really soft and it's glowy without being sparkly. I'm pretty sure it's completely sold out by now, so sorry if this is a bit teasing, but seeing as it's so popular I'm sure it'll pop up in a future limited edition collection. I don't have any exact highstreet dupes but I know that Vivo from Tesco do good baked blushers, so maybe check those out?

So there you have it... I'm a cliché blogger, I admit it!

Did any of you guys pick this up when it was available?

FLASH by JIMMY CHOO

Saturday, 26 January 2013

I always struggle to write about fragrances and my personal taste is, well... very picky. But this is a new launch I really wanted to tell you guys about. Just as we think all the glitz and glam is long gone and left in December, this pops onto the shelves, FLASH by Jimmy Choo.

It's Jimmy Choo's second fragrance and I was introduced to it a couple of months ago at the top of the gherkin building in a very glamorous setting. The whole idea around the perfume is the feeling a woman gets when she puts on her expensive heels and gets ready for a night out. It's about anticipation, build up and excitement.

The scent itself is very floral with top notes of pink pepper and strawberry and base notes of white woods. There's also a bit of tuberose and jasmine thrown in the middle. It's floral and pretty without being sweet and sickly, but I have to say it is a little too floral for me. I don't hate it though, which is definitely an achievement in my books!

The bottle was designed with a 1970's chandelier in mind. It's crystal appearance catches the light at all angles and the box is VERY glitzy and sparkly.

With Natasha Poly fronting the campaign, the appeal for this perfume is all there, but it's still down the scent itself, and you can now have a sniff yourself at Debenhams, or nationwide from 28th January

Let me know what you think of it when you do!

CLINIQUE CHUBBY STICK SHADOW TINT FOR EYES

Friday, 25 January 2013

When the ladies at Clinique told me they would be launching a Chubby Stick for eyes in the new year I literally gasped (in a good way!). Why had I not seen that coming? What a genius idea!

Although I'm not a huge fan of the original Chubby Sticks, the Chubby Sticks Intense are some of my favourite lip products around! The Chubby Stick Shadow Tints come in pretty much the exact same packaging as the Chubby for lips, but the lid clicks on (I like that!) and the actual product is more rounded and less pointed than the original. This is for obvious reasons, as your eyelids are more sensitive than your lips and you wouldn't want to use a pointed applicator on them - ouch!

I was able to test three of their shades and although they're not very me colours, I could still get a feel for how they work. Applying the product is easy and you don't have to stick your finger in a pot and ruin your nails like most cream eyeshadows. It is a little fiddly though and for the darker colours a brush will definitely be needed to blend it out. I found with the darker shade it was harder to get an even colour and had to work at it a bit longer.

Once applied and blended (either with finger or brush) it did stay put very well and didn't crease which impressed me.

They're perfect for people who apply their makeup on the go and they're also perfect for travelling with. It's the sort of thing I'd love if I found the perfect shade, but I'm not sure these three will get much use from me. A bronzy shade would go down a treat and could double up as a great eyeshadow base. There are twelve shades available so it's worth going to a Clinique counter and swatching some yourself.

They are available nationwide and online from 15th February

Will  you be rushing to a Clinique counter to try one?

PERFECT YOUR COMPLEXION

Thursday, 24 January 2013

You know when you try something new with your makeup, you check yourself in the mirror and then you just think.... yep, exactly what I was hoping for.

I think the question I am asked most, especially by my friends is how to get glowy/dewy skin. Now there are many different ways, but this product from Clarins has quickly been added to the glowy/dewy list. The Instant Light Complexion Perfector is a creamy product that kind of feels like a tinted moisturiser. It's a radiance boosting 'complexion perfector' and I use this two ways. I've tried using it on it's own and it didn't do much for me, I then tried it under my foundation which I really liked. It provides a really nice base and makes your skin look really fresh. My favourite way to use it is to mix it in with my foundation and the one I find it works best with is my Laura Mercier Silk Creme.

Although I like my Silk Creme, it does feel a bit like thick paint sometimes and mixing the Clarins in makes it so much lighter and it looks much better on my skin. It's my favourite combo at the moment!

The Complexion Perfector comes in three shades and I love it! I actually prefer using shade 01 as I'm quite pale at the moment, but 02 will be a great Summer shade.

NAVY GLITTER NAILS

I know glitter season is over and you're all probably sick to death of it, but I wanted to show you how I did my nails for New Years Eve (sorry for the delay!).

I've never tried this before but I just thought I'd give it a go and I was really happy with the result! I painted my nails with two coats of the Ciaté 'Power Dressing', a gorgeous navy blue that I got in my advent calendar. Once the blue was completely dry, I started the glitter, doing each nail at a time. I simple splodged some glitter all along the tip of my nail (where the white bits would normally be) and then using an old topcoat I don't mind making glittery, I swept the top coat over the glitter pulling down towards to cuticle part of the nails. If you do it slowly, you can control where the glitter goes and get the desired effect for however you like it. I went back on a few nails and added more glitter to the tip if there were gaps. I then let all the glitter dry and applied my favourite top coat over the top to make sure it stayed put.

So that's it! Easy! You can do it with any colours and I think a pale, pastel pink and rose gold glitter would be so pretty.

Are you going to give this a go?

RIMMEL APOCALIPS LIP LACQUER

Tuesday, 22 January 2013

I think Rimmel is one of the best drugstore brands for new launches, they always seem to get our little beauty obsessed hearts racing and counting down the days until launch day. This time it's with their new lip lacquers, Apocalips. The name is pretty epic, but I'm pleased to say that the product does live up to it.

The Apocalips are a happy medium between a long-wear lipstick and a high-shine lipgloss. They remind me of Stila's Liquid Lipstick as they apply a very thick, highly pigmented colour onto the lips like a lipstick, but the effect is a shiny, rich lipgloss look. I didn't find these to be sticky at all and despite the solid block of colour it gives, they're not at all heavy feeling on the lips. The packaging is clear, so the colour you see is actually the colour you get and I absolutely love the foam applicator with it's 'micro-resevoir'. It applies really smoothly and evenly, making precision around the lips easy. The way they feel so soft and light on the lips also reminds me of Collection's Cream Puff.

They come in 8 shades and out of the three I tried Celestial is my favourite, but I also have my eye on Big Bang which is a bright red. Oh and now you know why I don't wear nudes... I'm looking at you Nude Eclipse!!

They are extremely long lasting and stayed on whilst I filmed a whole video and ate some soup for lunch. You can see in the photo below what the swatches looked like after I scrubbed my arm with Bioderma.

These are out tomorrow so go and have a swatch to see if you like them. Be quick though, I have a feeling the first batch of these will sell out!

What do you think? Are these something you want to try?

WHAT'S ON MY FACE #7

Monday, 21 January 2013

This WOMF post was taken on a lazy Sunday. I had a lot of things to do at home, so I took the opportunity to try a few makeup bits so if they were a disaster it wouldn't matter as I'd be at home!

For my base I tried out Guerlain's Parure de Lumiere foundation, which is a new one to me. It claims to be a light diffusing and moisture infusion foundation, which are both qualities I look for in a foundation. It applied really easily with either fingers or a brush and definitely felt very sheer and lightweight. It's hard to tell how 'light diffusing' it is, but now looking at the photos of this post, I can see that it did catch the light in all the right places. The colour match is perfect for me and I'm looking forward to wearing this more and seeing how it goes.

I warmed up my face with my Jouer bronzer and then for a change I used my Benefit Hervana blush, which doubles up as a highlighter. I find this blush really easy to use and it's hard to over do it, although the colours can be a little too cool toned for me. For my eyes I just used a wash of 'Deeper' from the Urban Decay 'Dangerous' palette with a bit of MAC's Buried Treasure eyeliner on the lash line. I absolutely love this eyeshadow, it's a pretty bronze and isn't too shimmery. The eyeliner is an old favourite of mine, a brown/black with gold flex, and it makes the perfect liner. I also tried out a sample of the Fresh Supernova mascara and so far I'm impressed! It has quite a big brush and gave my lashes quite a lot of volume.

I left my lips and just added some Pommade Divine, as you can probably see they were a bit sore. I also spritzed on a bit of my Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin sample, but I immediately regretted that decision. It's definitely not my kind of scent, but it's one of their most successful, so maybe try it for yourself.

So what do you think of today's face?
