When playing around with MAC Rebel lipstick recently, I couldn't help but be reminded of another lipstick in my collection. I quickly reached into my lipstick drawer for Illamasqua Magnetism and pulled together a little comparison post, so here it is...
In the bullet Rebel looks like a very dark, deep purple but when swatched it's actually a deep, fuchsia pink. It's nothing like you expect it to be when you look at the bullet, which annoyed me a bit, but it is a gorgeous pink. Magnetism is a similar deep shade but it's more of a raspberry pink rather than fuchsia.
Rebel is a satin finish and although it looks good on the lips once applied, I found it quite difficult to apply. It seemed to cling to any dry bits on my lips, even the bits I didn't know where there and it really showed quite badly. I found I had to use a lip brush and blend in a bit of lip balm, which was a bit of a pain. I found Magnetism applied much easier, smoother and the shape of the bullet means you don't need a lip brush to be precise. Magnetism felt much more comfortable on the lips and reminded me that I need more Illamasqua lipsticks!

I really like the look of the Illamasqua lippie! Rebel reminds me of my Lancome - Midnight Rose when swatched but looks totally different from the Rebel bullet.

I have that exact same problem with MAC Rebel, and I have quite dry lips - especially in Winter - so it's such a pain! I also find it difficult to apply, I have to spend aaaages getting it right and even. Nightmare!

Do you find Magnetism wears comfortably? I only own one Illamasqua lipstick and I found it quite drying, so I never ventured to buy lipstick from the brand again.

ReplyDeleteI must prefer MAC Rebel, but is does look a lot darker in the bullet than it is applied on the lips. A lovely darker version of Rebel from MAC is Diva which I'm also loving at the moment :)

Rebel is one of my all-time favourite shades (love how it's deep and bright at the same time!), but I agree that the formula is slightly lacking. You've tempted me with Magnetism for sure! :)

Upon first seeing the first few images, I wondered why you were comparing them because they seemed like completely different shades! But when I got to the swatches on your lips, I realised why. They are so similar once applied and both are absolutely gorgeous! Although I do have to say that judging by these pictures, Magnetism is my favourite of the two.

I got my friend the illamasqua magnetism and charisma gift duo from asos at Christmas, she loves the lip and nail colour, I think I also prefer this to the mac colour
