Stila Smudge Pot 'Kitten' | Make Up Forever Aqua Cream Shade 16

I am a massive fan of cream eyeshadows. They are incredibly easy to apply, they never look over the top and they last really well throughout the day. I thought I'd show you some of the ones in my collection (yes, these are just some) as I find swatch posts like this really helpful when I'm looking to buy a new makeup product.

Let's start with the one that I probably use the most, the Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze. I forgot to feature this in my 2012 beauty favourites video, but it definitely should have been in there. I absolutely love this colour, I apply it with my fingers and it lasts ALL day. I like it on it's own but also as a base under a smokey eye. The Estée Lauder Stay-On Shadow Paints are new (to be launched in Jan) and when I went to swatch 'Chained' I was surprised at it's soft texture that felt more like a mousse than a hard cream like the others. The fact that it's so soft means it's really easy to blend which I really like. I recently picked up the Bobbi Brown long-wear cream shadow in 'Burnished' when I was in Bicester Village. I love the Bobbi Brown cream shadows and this one is an orangey, bronzy gold which is so pretty and unique.

I also always reach for my MAC paint pot in 'Bare Study' which is a lovely champagne colour, quite similar to Stila's Kitten Smudge Pot, but Kitten is a bit more peachy and the formula is quite chunky and less creamy than Bare Study. The Origins Ginzing cream shadows are also lovely and very similar to the MAC paint pots. When I was in America last year I picked up a few of the Make Up Forever Aqua Creams and although these come in some great colours, I really can't stand the strong  chemical smell of these, it's really awful. I probably wouldn't buy any more purely for that reason.

So there's my cream base roundup of a lot of products that are all pretty similar. I have so many it should be illegal, but for some reason these are really addictive and I keep buying more!

Do you have a favourite cream shadow base? Let me know what it is if you do!

  4. I use a cream eyeshadow every day, and even as a base for eyeshadow when I am going out. I have used a benefit one - rsvp which I loved - its so creamy. I have also tried the mac paint pot in bare study, It lasted for ages but it is not as creamy as the benefit. Currently I am using a Laura Mercier one - I love this one because its in a tube rather than a pot. Overall I think they are greta for a quick wash of colour!

  5. 'On and on bronze' is such a brilliant eyeshadow, definitely one of my favourites :) I really need to purchase a few more cream eyeshadows, I'd been thinking about getting either 'kitten' or 'bare study' so it's really helpful to see them swatched :)

  7. I've been looking to try some products from Bobbi Brown so will have to check out swatches of their cream eyeshadows. I hadn't noticed that Origins do a range as well. That's two potentials for the wishlist then.

  8. I'm a huge fan of cream eyeshadows as my sensitive eyes aren't keen on powders. My most used one is probably Benefit's Birthday Suit but I also really love Bobbi Brown's Ash (as it is matte), definitely want to invest in some more of the Bobbi Brown shades! x

  9. Being a lazy person that I am, I prefer cream eyeshadows over powder because I can just apply it with my fingers. My favourite would also be Maybelline's Bad to the Bronze (your On and On Bronze) because it is the most affordable and great colour payoff. Great post! x

  33. I have just started using eye shadows more, but I'm pretty rubbish at blending. I use some of Barry M's glittery powders if I'm going out to a party or something, because I love how jazzy they are. But on the whole I use a mildly pearlescent mineral because I'm too scared to try anything else. I'll definitely be looking into cream eye shadows after reading this though. Thanks :)

  37. I love cream eyeshadows although I really need to purchase some more since most of mine are powder based. Crime eyeshadows are a lot more moisturising on my eye and since I can get quite dry eyes and seasonal excema this is really important to me so I don't end up all flaky!

  40. Lovely review, my personal favourite cream eyeshadow is by 17 in 'Wild Nude', which is a sort of light, cool bronze. It's quite light and doesn't last as long as I'd hoped - definitely longing to buy a maybelline colour tattoo now! The on and on bronze and rose gold colours are first on my list! x
