New Years Eve Makeup

Monday, 31 December 2012

A little New Years Eve inspiration for you in case you were stuck for ideas. This is pretty much the same makeup I wore for my birthday and I got lots of nice comments on it on my vlog. So here you go...

I started by using my NARS Sheer Glow for a nice coverage and to avoid a ghost face in the Facebook photos the next day. A bit of powder to keep my concealer in place and my usual bronzer and blusher routine, it's subtle but important to add definition. I kept the lips simple and nude using MAC's Patisserie with Boy Bait cremesheen lipgloss on top. I think when the eyes are this dramatic it's nice to keep the lips simple.

The eyes are the main focus of this look. I started with a cream bronze base using my finger to apply Maybelline's On and On Bronze. On top of that I build a deep and dark smokey eye using MAC's Handwritten which is a dark, matte brown. I also took this brown under the eye to really make it look smokey. New Years Eve without sparkle is like a Christmas tree without lights, so on top of the shadow I pressed on Concrete from Bobbi Brown. This is the most gorgeous taupe pressed glitter shadow and I love the effect it gives. To finish the eyes I made my lashes look a little fuller by adding some liquid liner to the top, some kohl liner to the inside and lots of layers of my favourite mascara.

So there you go, a smokey, glittery, pretty New Years makeup look. Fancy giving it a go?

I hope you all have a wonderful new years eve! Remember, bread at the beginning of the night, water at the end ;-)

Happy new year!!

How to follow WIHT

Saturday, 29 December 2012

I'm on quite a few different platforms these days and it can be majorly confusing, so I thought I'd break it down and show you guys all the ways you can follow me and my beauty ramblings. Unfortunately I can't reply to comments on here, so as much as I LOVE reading them all, when someone posts a question I feel so bad that I can't reply. So here are some other ways you can chat to me if you'd like to!

Click on the titles to be taken to the page...

Bloglovin' (whatihearttoday)
This is the platform I use to follow blogs, because it's so easy. You simply subscribe to the blogs you want to follow and then the new post will appear on your timeline, a bit like Facebook, so you can catch up on them when you have time! This is probably the best way to make sure you don't miss out on any posts.

Twitter (@lilypebbles)
I am on Twitter 24/7 and this is the best place to follow me if you are interested in what I get up to daily and also if you have any questions. I try to reply to all tweets when I can and it's the easiest place for me to reply. I get a lot of emails and so it can take a while for me to get through them!

Facebook (whatihearttoday)
I try to update my Facebook page daily and it's really just another place to see when my posts go up. I also love to have a little beauty fuelled chat, so feel free to post on the wall and I'll make sure to reply!

Instagram (lilypebbles)
I don't care if they're going to use my photos for free without permission, I'm still obsessed with Instagram and won't be leaving any time soon. I post photos daily and really enjoy it so feel free to pop on over and leave me a little comment, I'd love that!

YouTube (whatihearttoday)
I'm sure you all know by now that as well as blogging on here, I also make videos on my YouTube channel. At the moment I'm in a little routine of making two videos a week that go live on Wednesdays and Sundays. If you click 'subscribe', it's similar to Bloglovin' and you'll be notified when I upload a video. If you're not yet into YouTube, give it a go and watch a few vids... trust me you'll become obsessed with watching like I am!

So I think those are all the main ones covered...

I hope you all have a great weekend!

What's On My Face #4

Friday, 28 December 2012

So Christmas is over, there's still some turkey lurking in the fridge, chocolate wrappers under the sofa, but I'm now looking forward to the new year... I think 2013 will be a good one!

Another 'What's on My Face' post and although this isn't one of my faves I wanted to post it anyway - we can't have perfect makeup everyday!

For the base I used NARS Sheer Glow which is an old foundation which I've recently fallen back in love with. It's definitely not sheer, in fact it's one of the heavier foundations I own. If I want a lighter finish I use my hands and for fuller coverage I use my stippling brush. On my cheeks I used the Jouer bronzer as a contour to warm up my face, the Dior Amber Diamond to highlight my cheekbones and Benefit Coralista for a flush of colour.

On my eyes I started with my favourite base, Maybelline's 'On and On Bronze' and over the top layered MAC's Patina which has become one of my favourites. I then used MAC Charcoal Brown in the crease and under the eye. For mascara I'm trying Benefit's 'They're Real' which was voted number 1 in the UK although I'm still unsure of whether it's for me or not.

Another new favourite is the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, which although makes them a bit crispy, definitely holds them in place! And finally on the lips, a new addition to my collection, Topshop's 'Beguiled'. I find applying Topshop lipsticks quite hard and have to use a brush and then pat with my finger, but after all the hard work I was left with a pretty wine colour.

On my nails is the 'Vivianna Manicure' and I used Leighton Denny 'Maneater' and Ciate 'Ladylike Luxe' to get the look. I love it and I'm thinking about doing it with black and rose gold next time!

So a bit vampier than usual, but sometimes I like a change! What do you think of the darker lip?

~ Presents under the tree ~

~ Tree ornaments ~

~ The Christmas table ~

~ The mother of all crackers ~

~ Chestnuts fill the room ~

Sometimes just the little things put a massive smile on my face. I may do these kind of posts from time to time, maybe when I feel down or maybe when I just fancy logging memories of great things. One of my all time favourite bloggers, Emily, has her famous 'Five Things' posts and I have always loved the idea, so call it inspiration!

I hope these things put a little smile on your face too.

Wednesday, 26 December 2012

The last monthly favourites of the year!!! I have a mammoth video coming up soon where I talk through my beauty favourites for the whole year, but for now here are the products I've been loving this month.

Sorry that I no longer write about my favourites on here, but sometimes talking about them in a video is easier! If you want to subscribe to my YouTube channel you can do so here, then you can come back and watch the video when you have time and speakers... as I know a lot of you read this blog at work.... naughty ;-)

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas day yesterday, if you missed my ever so grateful post yesterday, go have a little read. Today I'll be heading up to Suffolk to see Rich's family for the day.

Have a lovely boxing day!

Merry Christmas!

Monday, 24 December 2012

A glass of milk, cookies & a mince pie for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph.

To all of you, I wish you a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for being such amazing readers and always leaving such lovely comments, it means the world to me. I've been running this blog for nearly three years, but the past few months have been the best, the most rewarding and enjoyable. I always read your comments and I know some of you have been reading since the very beginning, so thank you. I've loved being able to give so much more time to blogging recently and posting better daily content that you seem to be enjoying! Your continued support means the world to me and I'm so thankful to each and every one of you.

I hope you all have a wonderful day with your friends and family, eating food and being merry. I have my December favourites video scheduled to go live tomorrow but then I'll be back posting regularly from the weekend. I've also been uploading two videos a week to my YouTube channel so I'd love it if you checked them out. The hard work that goes into keeping the WIHT blog and YouTube channel up to the standard I like is all worth it because I absolutely LOVE doing it and it's something that's helped make this Christmas one of the best ones yet!

Merry Christmas!!!

lots of love Lily xx

Glam Glow

Unlike most of my skincare posts where I just ramble on about the product under an image of the packaging, this post required a full face shot and I'm sure you can see why. Apologies if I gave you a shock.

I first tried Glam Glow* as a mini sample and found it really interesting. So although this isn't a jolly Christmas post, here I am back with a full size product to report my thoughts on the matter.

Glam Glow is a product from Hollywood and apparently all the stars swear by it! It's a 'tingling & exfoliating mud mask' and the three main ingredients in it is volcanic rock, French sea clay and green tea leaf pieces. There are a load of other ingredients too but the writing is so small I can't actually read it. So if ingredients is your thing, best to check online before splurging. I can tell you though that it is paraben free, cruelty free, fine for vegans and includes some lovely anti-oxidents.

The texture of the mask is thicker than other clay masks I've tried and it has quite large chunks of green tea leafs in which makes it very exfoliating when you apply and take off the mask. It is recommended that you use 5ml per application, so this 15ml tub for £22.50 will last you three applications. I applied the sample with a big brush but when using this 15ml size I had to scoop the product out the pot, which proved very difficult and in the end it was easier to apply it with my fingers.

The product dries all over after around 10 minutes which is when you need to remove it. I found the easiest and most gently way to remove it is to wet your face with your hands or a muslin cloth and gently wipe it away. It is very exfoliating and the tingly feeling is very strong so I wouldn't recommend it for those with sensitive skin.

The smell of it is gorgeous and quite similar to green tea and it did leave my skin feeling baby soft. The high price point makes this product a luxury and if I'm honest I'm not convinced that the same thing couldn't be achieved with a good exfoliator and mask. I did like it, but unless you have cash to splash and want to try something new, I probably wouldn't recommend it as it won't become an essential skincare item for me.

If you'd like to try a small sample for £4.99 you can do so here.

Have you tried Glam Glow?

B.Y.O Cheese Party

Saturday, 22 December 2012

It's great to have people over for parties, but it can get expensive and I know from experience how the supermarket bill can really add up when you buy enough food and drink for all the guests. Last week my sister and her husband hosted a BYO Cheese Party and I thought it was a brilliant idea.

It was a small get together with friends and everyone was asked to bring a cheese, meat and drink of their choice. When guests arrived their food was put on display and a little toothpick sign was made with the name of the cheese.

All that was needed were some grapes, chutneys, bread and crackers and you have yourself a Bring Your Own Cheese Party!

I ate myself to cheese heaven that night and well, it was one to remember. So if you're struggling for what food to serve at your next get together, I think this is a great idea!

Mmmm... cheeeeeese.

Zip n Go: Model's Essentials

Friday, 21 December 2012

My bestest friend Keisha Lall made a fleeting visit to London before heading back to New York where she's currently living and working as a model. Whilst she was here we chatted about everything we possibly could in the short time we had and one of the topics happened to be the stuff she carries around with her, her 'model essentials', for when she's at castings or travelling around. She's at castings pretty much everyday and on a flight at least once a month, sometimes twice!

Hand sanitizer is a must, especially when using the New York subway everyday, and I recently introduced Keisha to my favourite Soap & Glory Hand Maid. Gum or mints, so she smells minty fresh when meeting people at castings and tissues (although not glamorous, an essential indeed!). The Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a perfect skin refresher if you're not feeling 100% or you just need to make your skin look less dull and more glowy. This also doubles up as a great product for travelling as your skin can get pretty dehydrated on planes and using this alongside a gentle moisturiser like the Oilatum Natual Repair cream works wonders!

Keisha doesn't wear much makeup to castings, in fact pretty much nothing apart from a bit of concealer, but lip balm is important as you don't want dry chapped lips. After living in Oz for a bit, she's hooked on the Lucas Paw Paw and carries it everywhere with her. Finally, a mirror for final checks and some Kleenex blotting sheets as Keisha has oily skin so can get a bit shiny throughout the day. These are a great way to take away excess oil if you don't want to pile on the powder.

So there's a sneak peak into the life of a London made model living in New York. It may seem glamorous from the outside, but damn that girl works hard and the little things like the Zip n Go bag makes life a little less stressful.

And how could I not add a couple of photos of her? I'm like a proud mama! Sorry Keish, don't kill me...
