Com Viet, Covent Garden London

Saturday, 29 September 2012

I went Com Viet after a long day at London Fashion Week on the Saturday. Rich came to pick me up and after a drink on the Southbank with Zoe we walked up to Covent Garden to find somewhere to eat. We walked past all the usual places, Wagamamas, Wahaca, Busaba but we kind of fancied something a bit different. We walked past Com Viet which is just off Covent Garden Market (the square) and it didn't look like much. The upstairs looks like a very relaxed lunch-time bar but after looking at the menu we decided to give it a go. We originally sat upstairs but then decided it was a bit cold and uncomfortable so we asked to go downstairs.

Downstairs was much nicer with dimmed lighting, comfy booth tables, exposed brick walls and an open kitchen. The waitress was friendly and there were no dramas with ordering and paying etc.

The Vietnamese menu was quite big but the waiters were happy to help if we had any questions. For starters we had stir fried salt and pepper squid and veggie spring rolls which were both really good. For main I had stir fried noodles with chicken and vegetables and I was a bit disappointed with it. I know it's not the most extravagant dish ever but when done well it can be really good. I just felt like it was a bit like something you'd get from a takeaway and was a too salty. It left me feeling a bit bloated and it was a shame because the starters were so good. Rich had stir fried duck breast with ginger and spring onion and really liked it. I (of course) tasted a bit and can confirm it was yummy.

Prices are pretty standard for London, around £8/£9 for a main dish, £2/£3 for a side of rice or noodles and starters were around £5/£7.

I wouldn't rush back but if I was in the area and wanted Vietnamese then I would go again. I love finding random restaurants when walking around London and I'm glad we tried it.

Have you been here? Would you try it?

Finished Products #2

Friday, 28 September 2012

Lots of empty products and lots of mixed opinions. I've been forcing myself to finish some products recently otherwise they just sit around and take up space. Here's what I was left with.

Casual Summer Outfit

Thursday, 27 September 2012

Ray Ban Sunglasses | Topshop Flag Necklace | Zara Jacket | Romwe Bag* | Monki Mint Tee
Topshop Leigh Jeans | Toms

When I showed this Zara jacket in this video, quite a few of you asked how I'd wear it. This outfit was just really easy to wear throughout the Summer and because of the thin material the jacket is made out of, I can now use it as a cardigan under a coat.

I'm all about comfort during the week so jeans and Toms it is! I usually wear statement necklaces to smarten up an outfit and on this day I chose to wear my Topshop flag necklace that I really love.

Sorry for the old photo and super casual outfit, but I thought you'd like to see it anyway!

In case you missed my last YouTube video, here it is and it's a haul!

Illamasqua Complement Palette

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

Illamasqua Complement Palette* - £34

Illamasqua's Generation Q collection is one of my favourites so far and I spoke a bit more about it in this post. It's very wearable whilst still offering that edge that Illamasqua do so well.

The Complement palette caught my eye straight away because of the plum/purple colours. I'm really into plums and burgundies and they are going to be perfect for Autumn. In this palette are 3 powder shadows and one liquid metal which is like a cream shadow. Focus (top right) is great to use as a base and makes the powder shadows last and apply much better. Forgiveness (bottom left) is one of my favourite eye shadows for doing a smokey eye and I have it on it's own too which I mentioned in this video. Queen of the Night (bottom right) is a much darker, blackened purple which I'd use a tiny bit of in the outer corner of the eye. This shade is also good to use as a liner on the bottom lash and then you can use Slink which is a soft champagne shimmer as a highlight around the tear duct.

It's a great smokey eye palette and as always the quality of Illamasqua's eyeshadows are incredible.

What do you think of the Complement Palette?

Pic Pack

Pic Pack* €18

Do you remember when I posted about my Instagram iphone case from Casetagram? Well here's another Instagram product... Pic Pack!

Instagram is ridiculously popular so it only makes sense to use your pretty photos to make items you can keep. This time it's magnets! The website links with your Instagram and you simply pick the photos from your Instagram feed that you want to use.

I'm currently living at home so I had to be considerate of the fridge owner (aka my mum) when it came to picking the photos. I don't think she would have appreciated photos of me posing with a new lipstick or some crazy nail art photos. So I decided to go for the family theme and pick the photos I had of my niece, nephews and grandma. I also threw in one of me as a little one, one of me and Rich and one of my girly friends.

I think they're so cute and are lovely to display on the fridge. Before these we had random magnets that just looked messy and now the fridge is like one big wall of photos. My sister saw these and straight away bought two packs, so her fridge is like some kind of shrine to her children... but it's cute!

What do you think of Pic Pack? Would you order a set?

American Apparel Neon Red Nail Polish

Monday, 24 September 2012

American Apparel NEON RED Nail Lacquer - £9

I picked up this AA Neon Red nail polish quite a long time ago and haven't actually worn it as much as I thought I would. I was expecting bright neon but was a little disappointed as to me it looks more like a bright red, rather than a neon. Apparently it helps if you apply a base of nude polish underneath the neon, but I haven't tried that yet.

I think the AA nail polishes are good though and apply nicely with quite a long brush. I think the price is too high, but I wouldn't expect any less from AA.

What do you think of this colour?

Vapiano, Central London

Saturday, 22 September 2012

Just a quick intro as this is hopefully a new weekly feature on WIHT (well I'll TRY and do it every week). I eat out ridiculously often as you'll already know if you follow me on Instagram and I always get a great reaction from my photos, so I thought it would be nice to occasionally write about the restaurants I go to on my Saturday post. There's so many amazing restaurants in London and my boyfriend in I are always up for trying the new ones that pop up here and there. So this will be the space for me to make you drool over photos and let you know my thoughts. If it's not a restaurant review it'll be something food related. I'm no food expert, but I sure do love to eat!

Spaghetti Arrabbiata

Vapiano is situated directly behind Topshop on Oxford Circus which makes it great for tourists. It's open for lunch and dinner but I would personally recommend it for lunch. It's an Italian restaurant that offers Pizza, Pasta and Antipasti.

The restaurant itself is really big and spaced over 2 floors. The tables are high up with tall benches that you can share which makes it seem good for big groups. There's also an area downstairs with sofas for a more relaxed meal. I love that all the tables have a basil and rosemary plant on it so you can take as much as you'd like, it's a really nice touch. There's also a self service tap water and glasses which is good for people like me (more tap water please!).

When you enter the restaurant you're greeted by a hostess who gives each person their own Vapiano 'credit card' and this is basically what you use to buy and pay for your food. It's a buffet style restaurant so you go up to either the pasta or pizza counter to order your food. The pizzas take a little longer so after ordering you're given a buzzer that will let you know when to go and collect your food. For the pasta though, you stand and wait whilst they very quickly cook your pasta in the hot woks. You're able to chose your pasta type first and then your sauce and both the pasta and sauces are all fresh. The food is really good. I feel like when it comes to Italian I kind of know my stuff, not for any particular reason, just because I eat it A LOT and always have since I was little.

After ordering your food the chefs will ask you to scan your card on the till and this will add the amount for your meal onto it. There are also a few bars that you can go up to order your drinks and again scan your card. At the end of your meal you take the card to the till and pay the total.

The reason I say it's better for lunch is because depending on what everyone in your group decides to eat, it can be a bit of an antisocial place to eat. If it's busy you'll need someone to stay behind to hold the table and if some people get pizzas they'll be waiting longer, so if you go in a big group you can easily end up all eating at different times which is a bit annoying. I went with Rich on a quiet Sunday and we both had pasta so it was fine, but if you do go, bear that in mind.

I'd go back again. Mainly because of it's handy location but also because the pasta was great and I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

Have you ever been to Vapiano? Will you try it next time you're in the Oxford Circus area?

LFW at Somerset House

Friday, 21 September 2012

London Fashion Week is my favourite time for people watching, so I thought I'd take some snaps to share with you.

I saw some amazing hair, mainly braiding that I WISH I could do to my hair. There was also quite a lot of blue dye which is where I'm guessing the inspiration came from for Zoe's new hair. When I wasn't at shows I was walking around Somerset House taking street style snaps and having a few taken of me, which was fun! I also went to the Glam Rimmel Suite with some lovely ladies, including Jen, Zoe, Meg, Anna, Zoe and Jen. Wow two Jens and two Zoe's... that's confusing! It was a really nice place for us to chill out and catchup over a glass (or two!) of champagne.

So that's it for my LFW posts. Until next season!

Ooh, also. Check back here tomorrow as I have a different kind of post going up. I recently asked on Twitter if you'd all be interested in a Saturday feature and the response was crazy so I hope you like it!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
