4 friends, 4 hair types

Wednesday, 1 August 2012

Welcome to the cheesiest named blog post I've ever written. These are a few of my best friends. We've known each other since we were 4 years old, we were inseparable all the way through primary school and although we went to different schools and universities we're all still ridiculously close. Although we have many things in common, our looks are definitely not one of them, especially our hair. So I thought I'd introduce you to my lovely friends and their hair (random, I know).

This is Keisha, you may have already seen her in this video. In case you couldn't tell, Keisha is a model - don't let it get you down too much... some people are just born ridiculously gorgeous. Her origins are Indian and South American and her hair type is thick, not coloured, quite nourished at the roots but a little dry at the ends.
She uses Frizz Ease Shampoo and Conditioner to control the frizz as her hair is so thick and she doesn't straighten or blow dry it. She also likes to use Moroccan Oil Curling Cream when wearing it curly which is a really nice and nourishing product, as well as using a bit of the Moroccan Oil through the ends of the hair. The Moroccan Oil can be used on dry or wet hair, but Keisha uses it when her hair is dry. This one is a really handy size to use on the go!  When her hair is feeling really dry and damaged after a photo shoot, she'll use the Motions Treatment Conditioner which is just a super hydrating treatment for hair damaged by too much heat styling. Motions is a brand designed specifically for African American hair, but can be used on anyone with dry hair wanting a deep condition.

SJ's the youngest in our little friendship group, but was always the leader of the gang... that's what happens when you're just really cool. She's works full time in Fashion but is also a singer part time. She has an incredible voice, you should listen to her cover of Beggin' here.
Now, I'm not joking, when I asked her to show me all the products she uses on her hair this is all she brought out. Lucky for her though, that she has great hair. I'd describe her hair as quite fine, although she has quite a lot of it. It's also coloured and can get quite dry at the ends. She uses Kérastase Shampoo and Conditioner, which is a really nice salon brand. I also brought her some Argan Oil back with me from Morocco so she can use a little bit of oil on the ends when it's feeling dry.

This is Jenny - she's the crazy one who entertains us all. Jenny is a full time fashion designer and is currently working her butt off finishing her collection to launch in October, this is her websiteJenny's roots are Nigerian and her and all her siblings are so gorgeous! She obviously has afro hair... and I thought my hair was difficult.  I physically couldn't fit all her products in one photo. I can't possibly go through each one, but I'll mention the most interesting. As she uses so many products to control her hair, she likes to use a clarifying shampoo once a month to strip her hair back to it's normal conditions. She uses the Panten Pro V Classic Clarifying Shampoo and this prevents any greasy product build-up. She also mixes her own treatment which consists of Coconut Oil (from Thailand), Cream of Nature Jojoba & Olive Oil, Peppermint Oil, Olive Oil replenishing conditioner (for extra protein) and Motions Moisture Plus for extra moisture. Mouthful or what?! Other products she loves using are the Karatin & Green Tea reconstructer and the I.C Hair Polisher and heat protectant serum. When she blow dries her hair she lightly sprays the Sta-Sof-Fro hair spray which is an oil sheen and comb out conditioner that contains lanolin, protein and UV protection. Jenny's hair routine is mega intense, but works! If you have any questions about it, tweet her @Jennifer_Onah

And then there's me... looking kinda strange. Most of you know my haircare routine, although it does change slightly every so often. I've already posted a video here about my hair and the products I use. My hair is curly, frizzy, dry and has a bit of colour in it. I absolutely love the Ojon Dry recovery shampoo & conditioner* because it really puts the moisture back into my hair and when I leave my hair curly I use them alongside my Regis Curl Lock Curl Cream and the Sebastian Potion 9. I've also recently been using the Toni & Guy Prep Curl Defining Oil* which I'll be doing a review on soon. When I have my hair straight I use the Unite 7 Seconds Condition Detangling Spray which is amazing for protecting my tangled hair.

So this was a pretty mammoth post, but one I thought you'd find interesting. Let me know what you thought of it and whether you like me getting my friends involved with my blog?

Lily xx

  7. ooh i really enjoyed reading this! it's such a good idea, might have to steal it for a post on something in the future. i think my hair's most like SJ's (ps you were right, that cover of Beggin is really good!), she will definitely benefit from using just a bit of moroccan oil as it's done my hair the world of good.
