MUA: The Immaculate Collection

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

In the past few months I have really enjoyed exploring 'drugstore' makeup. I have always been quite skeptical of cheaper makeup but I'm being more open-minded now and have found some great products. I'm in love with a new foundation that I will tell you all about soon...

I recently got given this MUA palette to have a little play with. The Immaculate Collection palette is to celebrate MUA's success in Superdrug over the last 6 months. It has 24 amazing colours; a mix of highly pigmented mattes and shimmers.

What's so incredible about this pallette is not only the quality, but the price. I really can't believe it, but it's only £8! It's such an incredible deal. MUA launched their online store today too - what perfect timing! So if your local Superdrug doesn't stock MUA, you can now get everything on their website.

Have you tried this palette? What do you think? I can't wait to experiment with it.

Berry Red

Monday, 28 November 2011

Whilst waiting for a friend in Topshop I found myself browsing the makeup stand. I'm never blown away by Topshop makeup but thought the Lip Markers looked quite interesting. The one thing that bugs me about wearing a bright lipstick is that I always have to use a small brush to line my lips. I have weird shape lips and always end up making a mess. So this marker pen lipstick/stain looked right up my street. I thought I'd give it a go and bought Berry Red for £8.

It applies really easily, like you are drawing on your lips. It is quite drying though like a stain, so I'd recommend keeping a lip gloss nearby when you wear it. I really like it though and think it's really handy.

What do you think? Have you ever tried a Topshop Lip Marker?

Snuggle Time

Sunday, 27 November 2011

It's that time of year again - snuggling on the sofa watching films - and for this you need some amazing pyjamas. As much as I dislike Gilly Hicks, the staff, the store, the ethos. the prices... they do good stuff. Their pyjamas in particular are so warm, cosy and soft - I absolutely love them. I picked up this pair this weekend and they are going to be my best friend throughout Winter. They were £32 which is ridiculous for pyjamas, but I love them and have never found any others that are as good.

I think everyone needs one set of amazing pyjamas... where do you buy yours from?

The gift of L'Occitane

Thursday, 24 November 2011

L'Occitane do some gorgeous Chritmas gift sets and I popped down to the Covent Garden store to have a little look. I love the shop - it is a true pleasure to walk around in. There were mince pies, christmas cookies and champagne placed all around and I had a really lovely time.

My favourite gift set was by far the Relaxing Lavender Collection.

The set is £39.00. My family don't spend too much on presents, just because there's so many of us it get's crazy! But I think this is a great gift if it's within your budget. It comes with a massive stainless steel type bottle of Foaming Bath. As soon as you unscrew the lid, the smell of lavender is unreal! If you like lavender, I promise you'll like these products - they smell amazing. It also comes with a Hand Wash, a Hand Cream, a Bonne Mere soap and a Scented Sachet.

The hand cream is basically a giant, lavender version of their usual and popular hand creams. It's a really big size and will last for ages. Lavender is one of my favourite scents, it reminds me of my childhood (I won't bore you with the story of the lavender bush in France) and it always helps me get to sleep.

My evening routine now consists of coming home and washing the London Underground off my hands with my lavender hand wash, followed by a coating of hand cream. I then have a really hot lavender bubble bath and when I go to bed I sometimes keep the scented sachet by my pillow to help me sleep. The sachet is also really nice to keep in your drawers to make your clothes smell nice!

The big gift sets range from £39 - £178 but they also do lovely smaller sets of hand creams, lip balms and shower gels for around £20. You can find your nearest store or have a look online

My mum has always been a fan and now I too have fallen in love with L'Occitane!

Do you use any of their products? Would you buy this as a gift?

Esio Trot

Tuesday, 22 November 2011

Random, but the name Essie has always reminded me of Esio Trot... ah, I loved Roald Dahl books :-)

I went to a beauty supply store recently to buy a wall mount for my ever expanding collection of nail polishes. Whilst I was there, I couldn't resist buying some Essie polishes (yes, I do have a problem). I am usually a pastel addict, but recently I've been craving autumnal colours. I actually picked up 5 polishes, but for some reason only remembered to photograph 4 (the one missing is Glamour Purse).

love, Love, LOVE these!

What do you think? Do you like Essie polishes?

LOOK beauty

Monday, 21 November 2011

When I heard that LOOK magazine were creating their own beauty range I was a little sceptical. I couldn't help but think it would be a bit like a celebrity perfume. LOOK is one of my favourite weekly magazines and I had a great time at the LOOK show, so I was definitely intrigued to find out more...
I had a sneak peak at the range when I received a few products in my LOOK show goodie bag, but wasn't entirely convinced.

I was invited to the official launch event last week which was held in a gorgeous venue in Marble Arch.

The event was really nice and definitely changed my mind. Once I'd tried the rest of the range I realised there are some really great products! I'd say the quality and prices are similar to Topshop makeup.

Pro Palette 3 in 1 looks £15
How to Smokey Eye Pro kit £12 (these sets are seasonal and will constantly change)
Nail Pop £5
Bronzer, Powder and Blusher £8
Stand Out Eyes Single Eyeshadow £4
Double Lip Hit Lipstick and Gloss £7

At the event was a photobooth which was amazing! I was so distracted by all the makeup that I only went in twice (trust me I would have gone in about 10 times otherwise). It was really funny - I find it so hard to pose though without laughing.. hence my absence in one of the photos!

Me with Zoe
Me with Kate and Jen

The goodie bags were personalised and I think the products picked for me are perfect! The stand out products for me is the Triple Hit Trio Eyeshadow, the Double Lip Hit, the Nail pops and the blusher - individual reviews to follow!

In this photo I am wearing LOOK on my eyes, cheeks and lips - love it.

The LOOK beauty range was developed by the dedicated LOOK beauty team and donations from the sales will go to the Look Good, Feel Better charity.

It will be available exclusively in Superdrug from the end of November (a lot of them already stock it).

Disclaimer: Some products from the range were given to me in a goodie bag for review. My opinion is always honest.

Sunday night essential

Sunday, 20 November 2011

Aromatherapy Associates have always got it SO right. If you like bath oils, look no further, these are the best I have ever tried. The miniature bath & shower oil collection comes with 9 miniature oils for 9 different purposes.

Deep relax            Light relax                 De-stress mind         De-stress muscle          Revive evening
Revive morning   Support equilibrium         Support lavender & peppermint   Support breathe

So far I have tried the de-stress mind, which I used after a mental day at work, and the revive evening. I surrounded the bath with candles and melted into a bath coma. Heaven.

They are amazing quality oils that actually do what they promise to do. If you have trouble clearing your mind, sleeping or just relaxing - these really do the job and I highly recommend them.

You can find Aromatherapy Associates in store at Space NK and Liberty or can get them on their website. This set costs £28.50 and you get 9 3ml bottles of oils.

Have you ever tried Aromatherapy Associates?

Shirt: New Look
Sweater: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Topshop
Necklace: Gogo Philip

I've been wearing these tops together quite a lot recently. I always liked this sweater but felt like it was a bit boring on it's own. So when I stuck this New Look shirt underneath, it really completed the look. In fact my stylist friend Debs inspired me to get more creative with my wardrobe. Sometimes it's so helpful having someone else look into your wardrobe.  Both tops are really loose, so it's really comfy and I like to wear them with my tightest jeans.

The necklace is something I wouldn't usually go for but I do quite like it. I've seen Gogo Philip many times in Topshop and always see some really nice items. I think this chain and pearl necklace will look really nice with a simple black top too. Looking forward to trying it with a few different things.

The Handbag Project

Wednesday, 16 November 2011

I was contacted a while ago by the lovely Natasha  and asked if I could send her a photo of myself, my favourite handbag and its contents, for an illustration for The Handbag Project. I of course said yes and didn't really know what to expect, but I was very excited.

Yesterday I was sent the final drawing and cannot believe how amazing it is! I absolutely love it! Look - it's me!!

My bag is from Camden and inside it (on this particular day) is my iphone with headphones, oyster card, l'occitaine hand cream, Diptyque perfume, Korres lip butter, Miu Miu purse and a little mirror.

Isn't it incredible?! You should definitely check out Natasha's blog to see who the next illustration will be!

Thanks so much Natasha!

What do you all think?

Nails: Nails Inc Westminster Abbey
Ring: Forever 21

Very messy nails, but you get the idea! I really like this ring from Forever 21, unfortunately it's a bit too big, but hopefully I can get something to make it fit.

Lush Christmas

Monday, 14 November 2011

I used to really dislike LUSH. Walking into one of their stores can be very overwhelming, and not just because of the amount of products but by the overpowering smell. The one thing that's always brought me back to have a browse is their amazing marketing. Sorry to have a  marketing geek moment, but it's just brilliant! Everything is perfect, from their ethos, gorgeous packaging, handwritten signs, logo, online community and seasonal products.

I went into the store to browse their Christmas products and for the first time, came out with a few goodies. I love how each product is individually wrapped in a paper bag with a label explaining how to use it. The little touches are so important and it's a real experience to shop there. The sales assistants were all very clued up on the products and were happy to take the time to talk to me. The products look edible and you leave feeling like you've got a bag full of yummy treats!

I didn't go crazy... I just bought a few things to try and to see if they live up to their hype.

What it says on the label:
Fade with comforting vanilla scent with natural vanilla absolute - the posh stuff made from vanilla pods - with a touch of restful sandalwood and a note of burnt caramel. Drop it (and yourself) into a warm bath and enjoy the fragrant, fizzy froth.

This is the one which excites me the most. I love the thought of a vanilla bath and the smell of this bath bomb is really comforting with yummy hints of caramel. It sort of reminds me of the bath equivalent of having warm milk before bed. I used this one tonight in my bath and despite the strange fluorescent yellow colour of the bath, I really liked it. It left my skin really soft and smelling amazing!

Melting Snowman - £1.95
What it says on the label:
Run a nice warm bath, then drop in your melting snowman. Watch him gently fizz and melt away before slipping into superbly softening cocoa butter, vanilla and almond infused water.

This one is a bath melt which is supposed to create a more creamy bath than the bath bombs. It is a similar fragrance to the Vanilla Fountain, but slightly less intense. This one smells more like play dough to me. It's just so cute and also looks like a chocolate chip cookie!

A French Kiss - £3.95
What it says on the label:
A charming, sophisticated, lavender embrace to soothe and scent your skin. Crumble under the running tap water for a bath full of lavender, thyme and rosemary scented bubbles.

This is a bubble bar so you can use it more than once by breaking it into pieces. I don't really like the look of this one, but I couldn't resist the lavender as it is such a good scent for pre-bed baths. I love the smell of lavender so I'm really looking forward to trying this one.

Skullduggery Ballistic - £2.75
This one didn't have a label and there is no information on the website about it, which is really annoying! It's probably my least favourite smell out of the four, but I like the sugar skull design. It smells really soapy, which I don't love, but I'm interested to see how it smells in a bath.

I loved the whole LUSH shopping experience and I will be more open minded to go in and browse next time. I do think though that they should try and make it less smelly in there so it is easier to appreciate each individual smell...

What do you think of LUSH?
