DIPTYQUE BAIES & L'OMBRE DANS L'EAU

Thursday, 23 May 2013

Until recently I thought that this was a known thing, but apparently not, so I'm here today to let you guys in on a little secret if you didn't already know! Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'eau is pretty much the exact perfume match of Diptyque Baies.

I've always been a huge fan of the Baies candle (and now the room spray!) but to everyone's disappointment it doesn't come in a perfume. I've owned L'Ombre dans L'Eau for over a year now which is why it's in the old bottle shape and I fell in love with it the moment I tried it.

Both fragrances are a combination of roses and blackcurrant which is why it has the most fresh, green, fruity scent perfect for all year round but especially for the Summer. I find them pretty much identical with slightly more emphasis on the rose in L'Ombre dans L'Eau.

So if you're a fan of the Baies candle, I'd highly recommend picking up a L'Ombre dans L'Eau perfume, I love mine!

INSIDE MY BEAUTY BAG

Wednesday, 22 May 2013

A few months ago I made it my mission to de-clutter my handbag, pick up the the strays from the bottom of the bag and house them all in a compact beauty bag. I picked up this one from And Other Stories and now I can just grab the bag from inside my handbag whenever I need something.

I change it up every now and again depending on what I'm using with a few staple essentials that always stick around. I always carry tissues and wet wipes on me, as well as a few hairbands, clips and kirby grips for emergencies.

In terms of beauty I keep a few different lip options so I'm ready for any situation. For daytime balms I have the Wild About Beauty Nutrilips Balm in 'Camelia' for a raspberry tint, the Clarins Natural Lip Perfector in '05' for a natural glow and the FRESH Sugar Lip Treatment which I like to use on the tube because it's not in a pot. Recently I've been testing out the Hourglass No.28 Lip Treatment Oil which is a really unique product. It comes in a pump with a 24-karat gold-plated tip that feels really cooling on the lips. The product itself is like an oil/balm that is a blend of botanicals and vitamins to help with hydration, regeneration and lip protection. There's so much to say about this lip product, I think a revisited review is in order!

I like to keep a cheek product on me as my blusher tends to disappear the quickest, so I keep my Bobbi Brown 'Pretty Powerful' pot rouge on hand for brush-free application on the go. I love the slightly darker pink shade as it also works really well on my lips.

Another essential for me is the Percy & Reed Dry Shampoo because my hair just suddenly decides to turn greasy without any warning so a spray of this in the roots of my hair makes my hair feel so fresh and it never leaves white marks.

As a travelling London girl my hands can get really grubby and dry so I always carry around a hand sanitizer and a hand cream. My all time favourite hand cream is the Kiehl's Ultimate Hand Salve, it's not at all sticky and it really gets rid of any dryness. I usually use the Soap & Glory Hand Maid but I'm not a huge fan of the packaging as it's not very secure so recently I've been trying the Renouve anti-ageing hand sanitizer. It's really different to any other hand sanitizer I've tried as it feels and looks like an oil rather than a gel. It leaves your hands feeling clean but not at all stripped, so I'm a fan!

As I said I switch up my beauty bag every now and again so let me know if you'd like this post to become a series!

WOMF #18

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

For today's 'Whats On My Face' I played it safe with my usual neutral eye as I wanted to wear a bright lip.

I started with the Dr Lewinns Primer and then used the illuminiser on my cheekbones and down my nose. I've been using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal foundation quite a lot recently and my thoughts on it change depending on what my skin is like on the day. Some days it looks dewy and light on my skin and then others it can look a bit drying. I do think it's very good though for a highstreet brand.

On my cheeks I used my new Stila convertible colour in 'Gerbera' which is a dream to use and the perfect colour, it's just a shame that cream blushers don't last that long on me. It's a stickier formula than most cream to powder blushers which is why it also works well on the lips.

On my eyes I primed the lids using the Zoeva eyeshadow fix and then layered MAC 'All that glitters' on top which is a really pretty pink/beige shimmer. I've been loving the incredibly soft Zoeva eyeliners, I used 'Desert Traveler' on the top lash line and 'Nude Reflection' just under the bottom lashes. Nude Reflection is light silvery/taupe that I think really brightens the eyes and it's a really unique colour.

To finish off the look I used Lipstick Queen's 'Genre' which I absolutely love! It's in a crayon form so is really easy to apply and it doesn't feel at all drying on the lips. The orange/red colour is really eye-catching but not at all vampy or over the top. I love it!

THE 'DO IT ALL' EYESHADOW

Monday, 20 May 2013

I've mentioned Estée Lauder Pure Colour Stay On Shadow Paint in 'Chained' before but it's about time I gave it it's own blog post and it's not often I do this!

'Chained' moved in to my daily makeup Muji storage as soon as I tried it and it has had permanent residence ever since! I call it the 'do it all' eyeshadow and it really is the perfect product for anyone who doesn't that feel that confident with applying eyeshadows in the right place and contouring etc. It's a cream shadow but the mousse texture is nothing like the MAC paint pots, Benefit creaseless cream shadows or any others I've tried.

I start by taking quite a generous amount of product onto an eye shader brush and packing it onto the lid. I like to use quite a lot of product as I find the texture looks even better when you do. Once the shadow is packed onto the entire lid up to the crease I then take a soft, clean blending brush and this is where the magic happens. Don't wait too long as the shadow will set but take the blending brush and blend the edge of the shadow right into the crease, it darkens slightly and leaves the perfect amount of definition.

I also take a small amount under the eye to balance out the overall look. It's really as simple as that and you're left with a gorgeous bronze eye that looks like it took a good amount of contouring to achieve.

This product is an absolute winner, so I definitely recommend giving it a go!

BEAUTY STEAL: SINFUL COLORS 24/7

Sunday, 19 May 2013

It's hard to find a box of cereal these days for £1.99 so when I spotted this nail polish in Boots I didn't even think twice before grabbing it.

Sinful Colors is an American brand that has recently launched in Boots. They have a huge colour range that's split into glitter, pearl, shimmer, matte and cream and they are all  Toluene, formaldehyde & DBP free (not that that personally bothers me!).

I can't for the life of me find out what finish this one is but it looked pretty matte when I applied it. The shade is 24/7 #920 and is a fluorescent pink. I was completely drawn to it and it has the same affect on other people when I where it. I found the texture to be average and quite streaky which is what I expected for £1.99 but I find you  can make any nail polish look good if you apply even layers and then a really good topcoat (Seche Vite!).

So this may just be the perfect bright pink for Summer... now all I need is a tan.
